Stockholm

Stocholm is the capital city of Sweden. Stochkolm is also the most populous urban area in the Nordic countries. The area of the city is 188km2 and there lives approximately  965,232 people. Stockholm is one of my favorite cities. I have been there more than ten times and yet every time I discover new places, new views, new cafes..

Stockholm on Rootsi pealinn ning kõige rahvarohkem linnapiirkond Põhjariikides. Stockholmis elab umbes 965,232 inimest, kes peavad ennast mahutama 188km2 suurusele maa-alale. Stockholmi puhul on tegemist on ühe minu lemmik linnaga! Hoolimata sellest, et ma olen seal käinud juba üle kümne korra, avastan ma siiski iga korda uusi kohti, vaateid, kohvikuid..

IMG_1137It is possible to visit Stockholm by plane or ship from Latvia, Finland or Estonia. I have been visiting Stockholm by Tallink cruise ferries from Helsinki and Tallinn. Cruise ships are convenient way to travel, you can have a nice dinner, enjoy the ship cruise program, party, at the same time when you are sailing to Stockholm. The journey takes around 16 hours, you will arrive to the city next morning and in the same evening starts your home trip. By plane you can get there with just one hour from Tallinn + the time you have to spend in the airport and to get to the city center from the airport.

Sõiduajal on aega nautida laeva showprogarmmi, õhtustada, pidutseda. Sõit kestab umbes 16 tundi. Kruiisi puhul on võimalik veeta terve päeva Stockholmis ning sama päeva õhtul sõidab laev tagasi. Lennukiga jõuab Tallinnast Stockholmi ühe tunniga + lennujaamas kuluv aeg ja lennujaamast kesklinna saamine.

The cruise ships go to Värtahamnen port in Stockholm, which is actually within walking distance from the city center. If you prefer to save your walking energy for discovering the city then it is possible to take a bus number 76 or red line of tunnelbannen/metro. The tickets must be purchased before going on the vehicle. The bus tickets are not sold on the bus in Sweden.

Bussipiletid tuleb osta varem, sest bussist neid võimalik osta pole.

Probably the best place where to start your exploring is the Stockholm Palace/Royal Palace which is the official residence and major royal palace of the Swedish monarch. The construction stared in 1697 and was completed in 1760. The palace has 1,430 rooms of which 660 have windows. The palace gives a job for about 200 full-time employees. There are different museums part of the palace such are Livrustkammaren, Gustav III’s Museum of Antiquities, The Treasury and The Tre Kronor Museum. It is possible to witness the ceremony of changing of the guards which is held at the Outer Courtyard of the palace. The ceremony is happening every day from 23rd of April to 31st of August. All the other months it is happening on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The opening hours and different ticket possibilities to visit the palace you can see here. The Palace is located in the Gamla stanThe Old Town, which is the perfect place for continuing the trip.

Kõige parem on ilmselt linnaga tutvumist alustada Stockholmi lossi juurest. Stockholmi loss on Rootsi monarhide ametlik residents ja peamine kuninglik palee. Lossi ehitamine toimus aastatel 1697-1760. Palees on 1,430 ruumi, millest aknad on vaid 660 ruumil. Palee on põhitööandjaks umbes 200 inimesele. Palees asuvad mitmed muuseumid nagu näiteks Relvakamber, Gustav III antiigimuuseum, Varakamber ja Tre Kronori palee-muuseum. Võimalik on ka osa saada suursugusest vahtkonnavahetuse tseremooniast. Tseremoonia toimub igapäevaselt 23st aprillist kuni 31. augustini. Teistel kuudel toimub tseremoonia kolmapäeviti, laupäeviti ja pühapäeviti. Palee lahtiolekuagade ja erinevate piletihindadega saab tutvuda siin. Loss asub Gamla stanis ehk vanalinnas, mis on perfektne järg avastusretkele.YLJA3796Gamla stanStockholm’s Old Town is one of Europe’s largest and best preserved medieval city centres. The old town is founded in 1252. The oldest square in Stockholm is Stortogret which is also probably one of the most photographed spots in Sweden. It was also the site of one of city’s darkest moments in 1520 which is known as the Stockholm Bloodbath. At the time, Sweden was under Danish control, and the new King executed 92 members of Swedish nobility who attended his coronation party.

Gamla stan – Stockholmi vanalinn on Euroopa kõige suurem ja paremini säilinud keskaegseid linnakeskuseid. Stockholmi vanalinn on asutatud juba 1252. aastal. Stockholmi vanim väljak on Stortogret, mis on ilmselt üks kõige enim pildistatud kohti Rootsis. See on ka üheks linna kõige vägivaldsema juhtumi asukohaks, tuntud kui 1520. aastal toimunud Stockholmi veresauna asukohana. Rootsi oli sel ajal Taani kontrolli all, ja uus kuningas hukkas 92 Rootsi aadliliiget.

You can also walk the narrowest street in Stockholm – Mårten Trotzig’s alley which is only 90 centimeters wide at its narrowest point. Mårten Trotzig was a wealthy merchant who thought a street should be named after him. This is what they gave him. If you want to get the same fortune as he had then pass the alley when keeping both hands on the walls.

Mårten Trotzig’i tänav on Stockholmi kõige kitsam tänav, mis on kõige kitsama koha pealt on ainult 90 sentimeetrit lai.

Besides the narrowest alley the Gamla stan also has the smallest public monument in Stockholm. The sculpture is called Järnpojke or Iron Boy and it is only 15 centimeters high. It is located behind the Finnish Church near the Stockholm Palace. It is a bit hard to notice it but just look for the big group of people who are photographing something 😀 It is said that it will bring good luck to anyone who caresses the boy’s head or offers small gifts to him.

Gamla Stan has really beautiful colorful houses from the 17th century with the cobblestone streets.

Vanalinnas leidub tõeliselt ilusaid värvilisi 17. sajandist pärit maju.

Close to the old town is the Royal Djurgården park with a beautiful blue gate. On the island which once was a royal hunting ground, there are now zoo Skansen and the amusement park Gröna Lund, also the 17th century ship Vasa. The park and actually the whole island is a very popular recreation area

Vanalinna lähedal on Kuninglik Djurgården Park, millel on ilus sinine värav. See saar oli kunagi kuninglik jahiala, tänapäeval on seal Skanseni loomaaed ja Gröna Lundi lõbustuspark, samuti 17. sajandist pärit Vasa laevavaremed. Kuninglik Djurgårdeni Park ja tegelikult terve saar, on populaarne vabaaja veetmise kohaks.

The same island is also called the Museum island because there are many museums on the island. The most famous ones are ABBA the museum, Vasa museum and the Nordic museum. The Vasa ship in Vasa museum is over 90% original, built by over 1000 oak trees.

Sama saart kutsutakse ka Muuseumisaareks, sest seal leidub mitmeid erinevaid muuseume. Neist kõige kuulsamad on ABBA, Vasa ja Põhjamaade muuseum. Vasa muuseumis olev laev on üle 90% originaal, selle ehitamiseks on kasutatud üle 1000 tammepuu.

Close to the park is the bridge over Skeppsolmen. What makes this bridge so special is the golden crown in the middle of the bridge with the stunning view over the Royal Palace.

Pargi lähedal on sild üle Skeppsolmeni.

Stockholm City Hall hosts Stockholm’s most important events, including the annual Nobel Prize banquet. It is possible to visit the City Hall or just the tower. The entrance fee to the tower is 60 SEK but maximum of 30 tickets are sold for each visit, so go and buy your ticket as soon as the ticket office opens at 09:00. I missed the visit because by the time I got there the tickets were sold out already. So seeing this view from the City Hall tower is still in my list .

Raekoja tornist avanev vaade on siiamaani minu bucket listis.

When you are already “on top of Stockholm” wander around in these peaceful neighborhoods of wooden homes and traditional Swedish red houses.

Kui sa juba oled “Stockolmi kohal” siis seal samas on rahulik elupiirkond traditsiooniliste Rootsi puidust punaste majadega.

Another place for a beautiful panoramic view of Stockholm is at Fjällgatans Kaffestuga which is an ice cream cafe. The ice cream there is very good but also very sweet. One scoop of ice cream costs 29 SEK, two scoops 39 SEK and so on.

In many places in Stockholm is only possible to pay by card, no cash accepted, so is in this ice cream cafe and ABBA the Museum for example.

Lisaks pakub ilusaid panoraamvaateid Stockolmile Fjällgatans Kaffestuga jäätisekohvik. Jäätis on seal maitsev, kuid pisut liiga magus. Üks jäätisepall maksab 29 rootsi krooni, kaks palli 39 rootsi krooni jne.

Paljudes kohtades Stockholmis saab maksta vaid kaardiga, samuti selles jäätisekohvikus aga ka ABBA muuseumis näiteks.

Close here is also Katarina KyrkaKatarina Church which is one of the major churches in central Stockholm. The original building was constructed in 1656-1695. The church is named after Princess Catherine. Surrounding the church is a cemetery where several famous Swedes are buried.

Algupärane hoone on ehitatud 1656-1695. aastatel. Kirik on oma nime saanud Printsess Catherine järgi. Kirik on ümbritsetud surnuaiaga, kuhu on maetud mitmeid kuulsaid rootslasi.

A cool place to visit is Snösätra Graffiti Wall of Fame which is about half an hour way from the old town of Stockholm. It is not connected by any main roads. For a long time it was forgotten and run-down industrial area but that changed when the landowners gave permission for the grey walls to be painted over by graffiti artists in 2014. the Snöstra thus became one of Europe’s largest graffiti exhibitions. The exhibitions are in the open-air and there is an annual festival every spring with music, DJ’s and live-painting to unveil new murals.

BFVX9377XOCH2571NNCR0186FRXZ3707I have actually visited just one museum myself in Stockholm and this one has not been advertised much in Tourism sites of Stockholm. It is called the Hallwyl Museum and it is absolutely free to visit. It used to be a home of Count and Countess von Hallwyl. This flat is the copy for their Switzerland castle and many of the paintings in this flat are actually copies of the ones in the castle. Looks super fancy but couldn’t imagine myself living there.

FFZF9424IMG_0974When in Stockholm I recommend trying their cinnamon and cardamom buns. Also princess cake – prinsesstarta, which has composed of layers of the lightest sponge, a dab of jam, dollops of custard and a giant mound of whipped cream. That’s all layered under a pretty marzipan top layer. The most traditional is grass-green color marzipan. I tried all these at the Sturekatten cafe.

Stockholmis soovitan proovida nende kaneeli- ja kardemonisaiu. Samuti soovitan proovida nende printsessikooki – prinsesstarta, mis koosneb kergetest taigna kihtidest, moosist, vanillikastmest ja vahukoorest. See kõik on kaetud martsipaniga. Kõige traditsioonilisem on mururoheline martsipan. Mina proovisin neid kõiki kohvikus Sturekatten.

I hope you got some ideas about your trip to Stockholm.

Ma loodan, et leidsid mõne idee, mida järgmisel Stockholmi käigul külastada.
